Drive times, departure-board style
Pick where you are leaving from. Every row is a route estimate to a fixed destination, with no traffic, rounded to the nearest five minutes. Rush hour toward Atlanta will be longer.

OSRM route estimates on OpenStreetMap roads, no traffic, signals or time of day; rounded to 5 minutes. Origins are the points on our map; destinations are fixed points (the airport is its centroid, not a terminal). OSRM (Open Source Routing Machine), requested 2026-10-19
How these estimates are made
Each figure comes from the open-source OSRM router on OpenStreetMap roads, from a fixed point at each origin to a fixed point at each destination, rounded to the nearest five minutes. OSRM assumes free-flowing roads. It knows nothing about traffic, signals, weather, school zones or the hour you leave, so a real trip will usually take longer.
The points are fixed too. The airport estimate runs to the airport grounds, not a terminal. Amicalola Falls means a point in the state park, not the falls trailhead. UNG means Price Memorial Hall on the Dahlonega campus.
Reading the board by origin
- Downtown square (the Gold Museum): UNG about 5 minutes, North Georgia Premium Outlets on GA-400 about 20, Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville about 30, Amicalola Falls State Park about 30, Midtown Atlanta about 80 and the airport about 100, all with no traffic (OSRM estimate).
- The Summit of Dahlonega (315 Summit Drive): UNG about 5 minutes, the outlets about 25, the Gainesville hospital about 35, Amicalola about 35, Midtown about 85 and the airport about 105, all with no traffic (OSRM estimate).
- Ida’s Place (119 Boyd Circle): UNG about 5 minutes, the outlets about 25, the Gainesville hospital about 35, Amicalola about 30, Midtown about 80 and the airport about 100, all with no traffic (OSRM estimate).
The Summit is a few miles out from the square, so it adds a few minutes to most trips. Ida’s Place is close to downtown and tracks the square’s numbers.
Atlanta is a different trip at rush hour
The Atlanta and airport rows are the most misleading if you read them as a promise. They assume empty roads the whole way. For your own commute, run the route in a traffic-aware map at the hour you would actually drive, on a weekday, a few times. We do not quote a mileage “from Atlanta,” because a distance tells you little about the drive.
Why these destinations
We picked the trips condo buyers here ask about: the UNG campus for parents and faculty, the regional hospital in Gainesville, shopping on GA-400, Midtown Atlanta and the airport for work and travel, and Amicalola Falls for weekends. For UNG specifics, see buying a condo near UNG. For second-home owners, see lock-and-leave condo ownership.
Using the board to compare complexes
With only two verified complexes, the board is most useful as a tiebreaker. If you will drive to Gainesville or GA-400 for work several days a week, a five-minute difference each way adds up over a year. If you will mostly walk to the square or the campus, the shorter local trip matters more than the Atlanta row.
Compare the two verified complexes on Dahlonega condo complexes.
Questions buyers ask
How far is UNG from downtown Dahlonega?
About five minutes by car with no traffic, by OSRM estimate from the public square to Price Memorial Hall. UNG enrolled a record 20,317 students in fall 2025, with 39.0% at the Dahlonega campus.
